Topic:                     Update on the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program

                                and UNH Student Chapter activities


This Program is one of the largest transportation improvement initiatives ever undertaken by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (ConnDOT). The Program includes operational, safety, and capacity improvements to 7.2 miles of I-95, construction of a new signature, ten-lane bridge, and transit enhancements including a new Shore Line East commuter rail station at State Street in New Haven. Program limits extend from Sargent/Long Wharf Drive (Interchange 46) in New Haven to Cedar Street (Interchange 54) in Branford. The Program was initiated in 2000 with the groundbreaking ceremony for the new State Street Commuter Rail Station. Highway improvements are scheduled for completion in 2016.

Tour:                      An approximately 60-minute site tour will be held prior to the dinner meeting beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the ConnDOT District 3A Office ( 424 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06511, Phone: 203-785-0456). Bring durable shoes (will be on active construction site), hard hat*, safety glasses* and reflectorized vest*. The tour is limited to 30 people. If you are interested in joining the tour, please sign up for the tour when you sign up for the dinner.

Time:                     5:30-6:30 PM - Social Hour, 6:30-7:30 PM - Dinner, 7:30 PM - Program

 

Cost:                      Members: $35.00, Non Members: $45.00, Full Time Students: $15.00

 

There is no cost for CSCE members who are unemployed.

 

Please pay at the door with cash or checks payable to CSCE.

 

Dinner:                  Choice of Prime Rib; Tuscan chicken with Dijon, garlic herb, lemon, and white wine marinade; Asian Salmon with roasted ginger glaze; Penne with artichoke, sun dried tomato, and vegetables in light marinara sauce

Directions:  

From North, Hartford Area: Take 91 South - Once in New Haven, take Exit 3, the Trumbull Street exit (see footnote below) .

 

From North, New London Area: Take 95 South (West) to New Haven - then follow signs to 91 North and Hartford & Springfield - once on 91 North take Exit 3, the Trumbull Street exit (see footnote below) .

 

From South, New York, Stamford Area: Take 95 North (East) to New Haven - then follow signs to 91 North and Harford & Springfield - once on 91 North take Exit 3, the Trumbull Street exit (see footnote below) .

 

Footnote: At end of Exit 3 count the traffic light you are faced with as #1. At the 3rd light take a left on Temple Street. At your next light take a right on Grove Street. At your next light, take a left on College Street. At your next light turn left on Elm Street. The Graduate Club is 150 feet down Elm Street on your left.

 

Parking : YALE LOT #51 - Parking available behind Club in Yale Lot #51 after 4:00 p.m. Entrance on Temple Street. At end of Exit 3, count the traffic light you are faced with as #1, then proceed straight ahead on Trumbull Street a total of 3 traffic lights. At third traffic light, take a left onto Temple Street, go two blocks (past Grove and Wall Streets). First driveway on right past Wall Street.
